Introduction to Chaos Magick

Chaos is not in itself, a system or philosophy. Not merely the “Magick is the Science and Art of causing Change to occur in conformity with Will” Crowley spoke of, but a more refined version, describing it more in terms of liberation, It is rather an attitude that one applies to one’s magic and philosophy. It is the basis for all magic, as it is the primal creative force. Peter J. Carroll is a leading figure within the Chaos Magic movement. Along with New Equinox publisher and writer Ray Sherwin, Carroll is widely considered to be the originator of Chaos Magic as an independent field of occult exploration. Carroll and Sherwin created a loosely organized group called the Illuminates of Thanateros.

A Chaos Magician learns a variety of techniques, usually as many as s/he can gain access to, but sees beyond the systems and dogmas to the physics behind the magical force and uses whatever methods are appealing to him/herself.
Chaos does not come with a specific Grimoire or even a prescribed set of ethics. For this reason, it has been dubbed “left hand path” by some who choose not to understand that which is beyond their own chosen path. There is no set of specific spells that are considered to be in “Chaos Magic”. The mind is everything, and the mind can do anything. This is a basic understanding in Chaos magick. It is your mind and your own Will that allows for magic to happen. Think of energy manipulation. You don’t need any specific symbol or knife or spirit to manipulate energy.

Any and all methods and information are valid, the only requirement is that it works. Mastering the role of the sub-conscious mind in magical operations is the crux of it, and the state called “vacuity” by Austin Osman Spare is the road to that end. Anyone who has participated in a successful ritual has experienced the “high” that this state induces.
An understanding of the scientific principles behind magic does not necessarily require a college degree in physics. Experience in magical results will bring the necessary understanding. Chaos Magick demands that each magician construct their own path based on their own needs, from whatever tools work best for them. As such, it has a much higher success rate than older more traditional systems and leads to a more creative, self reliant and balanced magician.

In Chaos Magick, Servitor’s is a thought form of your own creation. One of the most popular occurrences, back in the day was the creation of imaginary friends by children. The power and purpose of your servitor will be entirely dependent on you and your desire to develop it. For young children, to have a non judgmental companion to walk beside them as they learn to socially cope with other people is a common mission for some servitors. Another way to think of Servitors is as “Familiars.” Now this comes with a bit of a warning, without proper attention your servitor may gain independence and a life of its own, Thus this will evolve into an Egregore. I am all about responsibility and making your magick do exactly what it was intended to do, so I will give you some tips on how to keep a leash on your familiar.

Sigil’s: Originally developed by the English magician and author Austin Osman Spare . A sigil is a symbolized form of a desire or will. Once the magician has created its sigil, it send it to it subsconsious directly without the conscious being aware, this phase is called charging , in order to not interfere with the subconscious the sigil has to be forgotten , the magician attempt to do that during the banishing phase . After this , the subconscious can convert the sigil into action and reality .

Banishing: This is a technique to be centered before a ritual and enter the magical atmosphere, banishing is also used to clear the area from unwanted influences. Among chaotes , a popular ritual is the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, The LBRP
